SEPTEMBER
19-25, 2004
·
This year, 200,000 men will be told they have prostate
cancer
·
Every 90 seconds another
man is diagnosed with the disease
·
40,000 men will die from
prostate cancer this year
·
One of five men
diagnosed will be under 60 years of age
·
30%
of all US men have undiagnosed prostate cancer by age 60
A
group of prostate cancer veterans and their supporters will be focusing
attention on the prostate cancer epidemic by climbing in the rugged Yosemite
High Country during National Prostate Awareness Month. This year's climb, hike and gathering will offer
challenges on three different levels. An aggressive climbing team will attempt
the summit of three challenging mountains including 13,053 Mt Dana. The hiking
team will trek up to twenty-five miles of scenic high altitude terrain. The
support team will offer moral and logistic support to the other teams. All will
share the beauty of Yosemite. The expeditions base camp will be at 8500’
Tuolumne Meadows. There will be lectures on prostate health conducted by health
professionals. A prostate friendly menu will be available to the participants.
The week's activities are designed to help men
take a proactive approach to prostate health.
