Prostate
Awareness Foundation
Nutrition & Prostate Cancer was the title of last month’s support group meeting lecture given by Greta Macaire, RD. It is becoming more and more evident as the research continues to mount that a prostate friendly diet can be a key to prevention and an adjunct to a successful prostate cancer protocol. If you would like to view the lecture slides from this informative lecture you can visit www.prostateawarenessfoundation.org
A warm thank you to Greta for taking the time to visit with
our group.

We
Need Your Story:
We have been making
major changes to the www.prostateawarenessfoundation
website to make it more user friendly. We hope to have the new site up and
running by the first of the year. One addition we are making is a section where
you will be able to view success stories and protocols of men who have had
results with conventional and complementary approaches to their prostate
healing.
For
this new section and resource to have relevance we need your input and stories.
If you have a story
that you think will benefit the membership we would really like to hear from
you. Please take some time to
compose (or fine-tune your story if you already have one written) a short review
of your personal protocol. Keep your story concise and remember it is for the
benefit of fellow prostate cancer veterans and not medical doctors, so you can
spare the medical jargon. PAF staff will review your story for content and
relevance and make spelling corrections and recommendations for changes before
posting it on the website. Please email your story to PAF - Attn: Ken Malik @ kamalik@sbcglobal.net
A
New Clinical Trial Is Now Open For Advanced Prostate Cancer Patients:
Duke Bahn, MD and
Mark Scholz, MD are recruiting candidates for a clinical trial to investigate
the use of a combination approach for advanced prostate cancer. The protocol
includes cryoablation (cryosurgery) along with the immunotherapy agent VDC2008.
Preliminary trials have been ongoing outside the United States and clearance has
been given by the FDA to conduct this trial in Southern California. Candidates
must meet the following eligibility criteria: have known prostate cancer with
metastasis, no radical prostatectomy, no prior chemotherapy and refractory (no
longer responding) to ADT treatment. For more information contact Dana at Dr
Bahn’s offices @ 888-234-0004
Some
Highlights from the PCRI Symposium To Wet Your Appetite:
·
UCSF has become one of the
leading proponents of Active Surveillance.
·
PC experts now feel that
over detection and over treatment is now upwards of 56% of those diagnosed.
·
The Combidex MRI not
available in the US needs to be fast tracked by the FDA so it can be used to
determine if prostate cancer has progressed out of the capsule.
·
There is a second
generation of ADT pharmaceuticals being tested that will do a more effective job
of completely cutting off testosterone production and stopping prostate cancer
cell growth.
A more complete and
concise review of the above subjects and others will appear on www.prostateawarenessfoundation.org
after the November 6th support group meeting.
We
