Prostate Awareness Foundation

Monthly Bulletin – December 2008

Nutrition & Prostate Cancer was the title of September’s support group meeting lecture given by Greta Macaire, RD. It is becoming more and more evident as the research continues to mount that a prostate friendly diet can be a key to prevention and an adjunct to a successful prostate cancer protocol. If you would like to view the lecture slides from this informative discussion you can visit www.prostateawarenessfoundation.org. If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area you can sign up for free nutrition classes at UCSF Medical Center in San Francisco.

We Need your Email Address, Please:

One of the primary expenses at PAF is mailing costs. If you received this bulletin by mail and have an email address, can you please let us know at kamalik@sbcglobal.net. Times are particularly difficult for non-profits and any money we can save on our hard costs can be used for other important programs. Thanks for your co-operation.

Pomegranate Juice and Prostate Cancer:

Recent clinical studies indicate that 8 oz of pomegranate juice daily can dramatically slow prostate cancer cell growth. However, many of us are concerned with the high concentration of sugar in the juice. An alternative is to take a supplement. One we found recently is from POM. They offer a concentrated capsule. One capsule per day is the equivalent of 8 oz of the juice. You can visit their web site at www.pompills.com/research to view the study.

A Proven Cold and Flu Prevention Protocol:

It’s that time of the year and it seems like half the world has a cold or the flu. So how can you avoid getting sick yourself? Those of us with prostate health issues are particularly at risk. We need to keep our immune systems as strong as possible. When our bodies are fighting off colds and flu our immune system deteriorates and we are less equipped to fight off the cancer.

Ken Malik, the executive director of PAF has been using “The High Performance Hygiene Protocol” developed by Kenneth Seaton, PhD for a number of years with great results. Dr Seaton says that germs hide in three strategic areas of the body just waiting to infiltrate. The three places they hide are in the tear ducts, nasal passages and under the fingernails and cuticles. The High Performance Hygiene program is designed to kill germs in these three areas. The program is inexpensive and easy to adopt. Dr Seaton’s research indicates that a positive side effect of this protocol is a dramatic increase in albumin levels in the body. He has made a direct correlation between high albumin levels and longevity. He points out that average life span increased dramatically in the industrial nations in the early 1800’s due to increased knowledge about sterile technique and germs. The body creates albumin only when the immune system is not busy fighting off germs, infection and the common cold. A healthy albumin level should be over 4.0

What you need to get started:

Iodine (over the counter)

Eye Dropper

Sea Salt

Empty margarine tub or soap dish container

Bar of Antibacterial Soap

Wash Basin

Warm Water

The Protocol:

1)      Place the bar of anti-bacterial soap in the margarine container and let it soften for a few days in warm water (the shower is a good place to help this happen). You will need to be able to place your fingers into the soap and get it under the fingernails.

2)      Fill a basin or bathroom sink with warm water (make sure it is not too hot)

3)      Add one eye dropper of iodine to the water (don’t use too much)

4)      Add a little salt to the water and swirl it around with the iodine so it is well mixed

5)      Place your head in the water so your eyes and nose are covered.

6)      Blink your eyes under water to clear your tear ducts of bacteria

7)      Close your eyes tightly and blow thru your nose to clear the nasal passages

8)      Dry your face and blow your nose

9)      Do this procedure three times in a row

10)  Dip your fingers into the soft soap and then wash your hands thoroughly

For best results follow this protocol twice each day in the morning when you rise and again before going to bed, especially during cold and flu season.

We Need Your Story:

We have been making major changes to the www.prostateawarenessfoundation website to make it more user friendly. We hope to have the new site up and running by the first of the year. One addition we are making is a section where you will be able to view success stories and protocols of men who have had results with conventional and complementary approaches to their prostate healing.

For this new section and resource to have relevance we need your input and stories.

If you have a story that you think will benefit the PAF membership we would really like to hear from you.  Please take some time to compose (or fine-tune your story if you already have one written) a short review of your personal protocol. Keep your story concise and remember it is for the benefit of fellow prostate cancer veterans and not medical doctors, so you can spare the medical jargon. PAF staff will review your story for content and relevance and make spelling corrections and recommendations for changes before posting it on the website. Please email your story to PAF - Attn: Ken Malik @ kamalik@sbcglobal.net

Sweet Potato Kittichai / A Prostate Healthy Holiday Recipe:

2)      Bake the sweet potatoes for 45 minutes. Perforate them to prevent bursting.

3)      They are done when you can easily place a fork through the thickest part.

4)      Let cool and then peel.

5)      Cut them up and then mash

6)      Bring the coconut milk to a slow boil and then simmer for 20 minutes with the cinnamon stick.
